A large slip has caused a tree to block a lane near the northern entrance of the Karori Tunnel in Wellington.
The tree is reportedly blocking the northbound lane of the road heading into Karori.
Wellington City Council warned motorists to avoid the tunnel.
Contractors have been called out to the site to assess the damage.
* Slips and evacuations as parts of Wellington mark second-wettest day on record
* Neighbourly effort saves flood-prone homes from rising waters
* Stormy weather causes slips, trees down, surface flooding around Tasman
It is unclear when the road is due to be fully cleared.
Council also confirmed that Lennel Rd in Wadestown will remain closed after a tree fell across the road on Thursday.
Wet weather is preventing contractors from carrying out an assessment of the site.
